Our Adventures in Madison Wisconsin

It has been quite some time since I posted anything here. Both of us have been really busy lately, busy and rather boring. Our big excitement last weekend was cleaning our condo. …and I mean CLEANING our condo. We cleaned top down left right left right a b a b a start and then some. We even gave our hardwood floors, that we love so much, the cleaning trifecta of sweep, swiffer, and wax.

Perhaps it was the (are-you-good-golly-serious) Badger’s loss on Saturday, but we found ourselves motivated and extra productive. We even added the garage to our cleaning hit list, as we still had concrete powder everywhere from our concrete countertop project a month ago. The place looked as if we had brought in a CSI team to dust for prints. (…none were found). Thankfully, we got all the dust off and out and are once again able to comfortably park two cars with workspace.

Who knows what exciting series of events this weekend will bring, GoodWill donation run, laundry room make-over, Bed Bath & Beyond. I don’t know if there will be enough time.

Actually, our place is really nice now and we are thrilled to finally have it spotless. If you are lucky enough to have “Fall” open those windows, take a walk, pick some apples, carve a pumpkin, kick-back with a cup of hot cider, and have a great week!

It’s been 1 year since we bought and moved into our condo and what a year it has been. We never thought owning a condo would take up so much of our thoughts, time, and money. We also never thought owning a condo would be so different from owning a house, both good and bad. We’ve enjoyed fixing it up and most of what we have done are little things: paint, new lights, a dishwasher, and various decorations and furnishings.

We are anxious for spring and summer to come so we can start more projects, but a lot of what is left to do is bigger so we will have to wait until after our wedding run in July. We are trying to make smart home improvements, ones that will increase the value of our home while still allowing us to be able to make the money back when we sell. It’s a tough condo market in Madison right now, but we are researching things carefully before jumping into it (those who know us best are saying, duh!).

For those of you who haven’t been to our place, here are a few pictures so you can see what we are up to.

Boone here. Jess and I had been waiting for 5 weeks while the seller got things together on their end. However, I am pleased to say that the dust has finally settled. Things went really really well. Our realtor even brought us coffee from Starbucks.

This gave Jess and I a chance to get back in and take some measurements. You can see some pictures we took on our pictures page!

We did it! Boone and I are offically homeowners! We bought a 2-bedroom, 1.5 bathroom townhouse/condo on the west side of Madison. It’s a little bit smaller than what we had hoped for, but it should serve us well for the next few years.

Unfortunately, we don’t close until mod-April. That’s two months of waiting to move in! And April will be busy with weddings, showers, plannings, etc.  But it gives us some needed wedding and packing time.

So, Boone and I decided we didn’t have enough to do and started house hunting. We plan on staying here for a while, so why not build some equity in the Madison market. It’s a bit overwhelming for us clueless realestate newbies – escrow, closing costs, assessment, school district. But we figure it’s the best choice for us. Hopefully we find something that we can handle and love at the same time.
