All-in-all it went pretty smoothly. Jess and I did this ENTIRE project our selfs and took about 5 hours over 2 days to complete. Not too shabby considering the project included cabinet removal & installation, re-routhing wall wiring & electical outlet-box installation, cabinet & wall preportion, along with the wall-mount above-range microwave installation. (Thanks Goehner Designer Builders, all that construction work in high school is really paying off) We were able to do this project for about half of what it would have cost if we’d had to hire the three seperate installers needed.
We love the finished product. If any of you have a similar kitchen or are in a similar “counterspace sitution,” we highly recamend doing this project as well.
Good Luck!

Hi Jess Boone- This is the first time I am really exploring your blog. Pretty cool! And hey, great job on the over the stove project. — Do you hire out? : ) You guys are doing some neat things. The ‘mini cooper’ story was great too! — Not much new with me. Carrie and Mark or atleast Carrie is starting to get excited about coming back to the Midwest. I think they will enjoy putting a home together and doing all those homeowner activities. It will be great to have them closer by. take care !
Great job guys. How much did it cost to replace the cabinet for the project, I see in your project the cabinet size differnet. Any help on that please. I really appreciate all the information. Thanks in advance
Hi shebha – Thanks for the cabinet compliment! First, check the insides of a few of your existing cabinets for their current brand. This will help match brand, door-front style, and stain color. Second, be sure to measure the width and height for the new cabinet. (You will need to maintain a certain height between your range and the bottom of the microwave to stay within code) I actually found a local kitchen and bath store (Gerhards) that sold the cabinet I needed. They were great to work with and the cabinet only cost around $90. If you have any other questions, please let me know. Good Luck with your project!
