Well, after 3 great years, a LOT of remodeling, blood, sweat, tears, a few bottles of wine, and many thousands of dollars in upgrades later, our townhouse is finally perfect!

…and you know what that means… Time to Upgrade!

We are selling our condo and we hope someone new enjoys this place as much as we have!

If you or someone you know is interested, please call us at 1-608-218-4416 for more information or to schedule a showing!

Our property is currently listed by

Property Details

Stylish, updated 2 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom townhouse for sale on the west side. Our condo is perfect for any young professional, those looking to downsize with style, or those just starting out. You’ll be able travel anywhere in the city with quick access to Verona road, Hwy PD, and the Beltline. The condo is also close to Epic Systems, the new Target, Elver Park, grocery stores, West Towne mall, and more.

We’ve done all the updating for you -paint, trim, doors, lights, fixtures, appliances – so you can just move your stuff in. Glowing hardwood floors downstairs and soft carpet upstairs make it easy to clean. You’ll love cooking in the updated kitchen with stainless-steel appliances, under cabinet lightening, and unique high-end concrete counter tops. All the appliances are “green” and energy star rated which is good for your pocketbook and your conscience. It’s easy to entertain and enjoy the Wisconsin weather (when it’s good) from the large deck off the kitchen and dining room.

The master bedroom has ample closet space and is right next to the full bathroom. Use the versatile second bedroom for whatever you need; bedroom, office, or bring in a roommate to help pay the bills.

No need for any storage unit fees because there is extra storage in the basement, and the washer and dryer in the basement are both less than two years old. The two-car garage allows for more storage space and private parking.

If you travel a lot, no need to worry about house sitters. Just pay your monthly dues ($160) and the association shovels the snow, mows the lawn care, takes care of the shared green space, and pays insurance for outside of building. Your furry friends are welcome here too – cats and dogs welcome, (up to two pets) dogs up to 75 pounds.

This weekend was absolutely gorgeous. We were able to take advantage of the nice weather and kick off our Saturday morning with our Farmers Market, coffee, and bakery routine. We do this nearly every Saturday…and have become quite good at it.

Heavily caffeinated and ready to rock, Jess and I decided to clean out the garage. We have slowly been replacing all the bland flat honey oak interior doors with nice six-panel white doors (to match the baseboard). The place is really starting to look nice. (See before and after pictures below)

Whenever possible we try to donate our old/original home improvement items to a place called ReStore, run by the Habitat for Humanity people. They use donated household fixtures, flooring, tile, switches, cabinets, etc. to build houses for their cause. Items they can’t use in building projects, are sold at a reduced rate at their store location. Its a great program and a worthy cause. And with all the work we have done to our place, we are certainly keeping them busy with materials.

However, this trip they were already overstocked in the hollow core oak door department. As not to be wasteful in throwing them away or burning them, we brought the 7 doors down to the city recycling plant to be shredded and used for mulch around the city of Madison.

From a tree they began…’around’ a tree they shall remain.

Have a fabulous week!

It’s been a long time since we posted anything. I guess we talk enough with our friends and family that they know what’s up, and I don’t know if this isn’t read much by anyone. But, we’ll try to do better this year, starting off with a quick catch up:

We are both still employed at the same places, which is awesome for today’s economy. Boone went through a round or two of layoffs, but is still there and in a little bit of a different position. He enjoys it most days though. He is also working on a few side projects for some extra money and experience in web design, which is really cool. It’s a difficult balance of work and play for both of us right now, and work seems to be in the lead.

We only have two weddings this summer, and they are both fairly early. Don’t get me wrong – I love weddings, but they just take a lot of time, energy, and money. After that, we are off to San Fran and Napa with a group of friends to enjoy the city, the wine, and the weather. I think we’d like to do another trip this year, but we don’t know if the budget will allow for it. Until then, trips up north to Osseo and downtown to the Farmer’s Market will have to do.

We are still in our condo on the West side of Madison. We had thought about selling this spring, but with the market the way it is, we aren’t sure we’ll get what we need for a down payment on a house. So, we’ll tough it out for another year. It might allow us to do some of that traveling we want, and additional condo projects and plans. Stay tuned for updates.

Our home improvement saga continues. Our latest accomplishment was adding a new glass tile backsplash to our kitchen. Ever since we built/installed those gorgous concrete countertops this fall, our kitchen has felt very unfinished. The half painted Heinz ketchup red drywall backsplash was not tripping our trigger.

We chose a really nice 1″ gold-tan glass tile (and a few charcol gray) topped off with gray grout to match the countertops. The project itself was pretty easy to do and turned out great. However, it was a major mess involving schmearing about 1900 square inches of individual grout lines.

GROUT is just one of those unpleasant words like “Schlitz,” “Blatz,” and “Winter.” And, as inrony would have it, grouting your kitchen is about a 2 beer project.

Check out a few before and after pictures: (The grout is still a little wet)

For anyone who has been to our place, you have probably noticed the poor condition of the downstairs base boards. If you have not noticed or have not yet visited us, shame on you for not visiting. It is really quite lovely. …Anywho, I digress.

The old base boards needed far too much refinishing, as the varnish was starting to yellow, chip, and come off. The oak looked good from a far, but was far from good.

This weekend one of my best friends, and licensed La Crosse contractor, Andrew Goehner came down to help us rip out and replace our old base boards.

With our vibrant wall colors and wonderful hard-wood floors we chose a nice white molding to frame the highlights and draw your eyes to the floor. Also, instead of using the traditional quarter-round footer-molding we used a matching colonial door stop molding. This complicated things slightly, since door-stop (sold only in unprimed short sections) is not intended to be used as floor molding but as you can see in the photos below, it turned out absolutely great!

If you are located in the Madison or La Crosse area and need construction projects done, look up Andrew Goehner. He does exceptional work! Thanks much!

Original Condo Bathroom Light FixtureI think there comes a time in every homeowner’s life when you need to break down, bring in a priest from Home Depot, and exercise the highly-dated light fixtures haunting your bathroom. For us, that day has come.

We recently installed new brushed nickel fixtures in both our bathrooms. (we actually purchased them from Menards, as I feel they have a better lighting options) They are nothing fancy, but they sure look better than the old ones.

New Brushed Nickel Light Fixture

As we do with all our old building materials, we will be making a run to the Habitat for Humanity store (ReStore) here in town to donate our old fixtures. I suggest anyone in the Madison area looking to part-ways with building supplies donate them to ReStore.

On top of renewed style, we installed energy efficient light bulbs into our new fixtures. The old/original fixtures took 6 25-Watt bulbs (200 total Watts). Our new bulbs have between 3 & 4 13-Watt bulbs (39 – 52 total Watts). There is little to no difference in the actual light output when compared to the original lights.

Saving the environment …and our pocket book…one small step at a time.

Happy remodeling!

As many of you know, this weekend was the first really big snow storm of the winter season. Boone and I ran a few errands in the AM, got some supplies, and then decided we needed a snow day project to keep us busy.

So, we painted the downstairs bathroom and put up a new mirror. For those of you who have been to our place, you know of this room as the black hole; a small half bath painted black. Now, it includes a new framed mirror and is a rich green color called “Italian Olive.” We had our house guest Matt earn his keep with a little painting- little meaning two coats of primer to cover the black and two coats of green. Painting is not necessarily my favorite activity, but we had some good wine and hot cocoa to keep us going. That, and the fact that we really couldn’t step out of our front door until the sidewalks were plowed.

We also picked out some new slate flooring and talked about getting a new light along with staining the current vanity. I think those projects will have to wait until the next snowy weekend. Here are a few pictures until then!

We have our first real, long-term house guest! Our Matt (he is the Jesus look alike in the Halloween pictures and he was our wedding photographer) got a job here in Madison and is staying with us until he finds an apartment. We are really excited to show off our city and some of our favorite places, like the Essen Haus, Olbrich Gardens, State Street, and the Great Dane. Hopefully the condo won’t get too crowded with another person in it…

Our condo association has been busy this month, and sometimes not in a good way. I’ll save you some time and give you a summary: our condos were apartments two years ago, and were then converted. They were already 8 years old when converted, and instead of fixing stuff, the company just looked the other way. They also didn’t do our budget correctly, shorting us in the areas of snow removal and savings. Now, we have a lot of stuff that should have been fixed and no money to do it. This creates a lot of frustrated home owners and board members.

The good news is I (Jess) am now on the condo board with a few other fresh faces. It should be really exciting actually. Yea, we have problems, but we are only two years old and have 42 places. That means we have the chance to do a lot of really cool stuff, including a web site that Boone and a neighbor are working on. My mom thinks this could be the start of a Paul-Soglin like career, but I don’t know about that (You can read up on this Madison-celebrity from his blog in our linked blogs section). Let’s see what position on the board I get and how the first few meetings go.

Jess and I took the time this weekend to finish off the chipmunk roaster (aka. our Dryer) project from a month ago. We purchased a dryer exhaust-vent outdoor cage to prevent what happened from EVER happening again. (Thanks for the use of your Calk, Jeff)

Dryer Exhaust CageDryer Exhaust Cage Front

You can see how low to the ground our vent is. The old aluminum vent was fairly worthless and as we reveled in its removal, we could see just how flimsy its construction truly was. Every time we ran the dryer the vent flap got stuck wide open, as if to say “Welcome” to the neighborhood critters. From henceforth, this inviting tube of death is exit only!

Like a good Harry Potter book, we are treating our “little dryer incident” like an evil wizard…not to be spoken of again.
